I didn’t really ponder the connection, real or perceived, between sexuality, gender expression, and flamboyant colored clothing until a few days later. On a walk with my boyfriend he was gay bashed for wearing a shiny purple jacket.

“That jacket’s too tight. That jacket makes you look GAY. You look like a fag!”

“Thanks man!”

Are bright colors on male-bodied people really that threatening that you have to constantly shout at someone even after you’re a block away? My boyfriend said that his sexuality, in this case, didn’t even matter to the harasser. It was the dangerously flamboyant purple jacket that set them off.
